Capstone project - integrated visual arts ba
Artist Statement:
This collection of short form animations are an exploration of the wandering mind. Taking the form of sentient doodles, the work is meant to reflect the spaces we visit when our attention drifts, as we are able to explore the internal landscape of conscious thought. Featured in the works are both abstract and recognizable forms, reflecting the boundaries of the physical world as well as the limitlessness of imagination. The videos are short in duration because these moments in our everyday lives are often quite short and end, often abruptly, when the liminal becomes perceptible. Inspired in part by the Buddhist term “Monkey Mind,” or “Mind Monkey,” from Chinese xinyuan, tension builds over time and in different ways as the viewer watches the frame fill, in the way thoughts often crowd our mind uncontrollably. Accompanying music is several tracks created by Tony Kasper and edited by the artist.
